Given the exponential demand for ecological sustainability and reduced carbon emissions, electric vehicles (EVs) have become a major prospect in the automotive industry. Among the key technologies behind this transformation is the Lithium ion Battery.
How it works
Lithium ion Battery is rechargeable cells that store energy chemically by shuttling lithium ions back and forth between two electrodes with different electric charges. When charging up, lithium ions move from positive to negative electrodes; they flow in reverse when discharging. This high-efficiency conversion makes them perfect for use in electric vehicles.
Designing Lithium Ion Battery for Electric Cars
They are designing lithium ion batteries for EV applications. Electrolyte formulations can be changed alongside electrode materials to improve energy density. At the same time, researchers should also strive hard to come up with new materials that would serve as electrodes with higher capacity. Additionally, BMS or Battery Management System too needs attention since it plays an important role in safety assurance through continuous monitoring of cell conditions during charge/discharge cycles which helps prevent overvoltage & undervoltage situations among others thereby prolonging the operational life span of these batteries.
Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing process of Lithium ion Battery consists of several complicated steps. Firstly, active materials should be prepared properly; hence slurry coatings are done onto current collectors followed by drying and pressing them together creating electrode sheets. Another stage involves assembling these with separators & electrolytes into battery cells before packaging them accordingly lastly such units get activated electrochemically until the desired performance level is attained.
In summary
Lithium ion Battery is considered the heart of all-electric vehicles because without them there will be no significant transition towards full electrification in the automotive industry worldwide.
